Want to know the worst car to ever hit the road? Currently, The Zastava Koral or Yugo, holds the honorable title of Worst Car of the Millennium. The Yugo was sold in the market as a car that would be for everyone and fit everybody’s life. It was marketed to be a secondary car that evryone might want to have to be able to express themselves. To use for winter or just for daily driving as this was fuel efficient and very easy to handle on the road. One of their marketing slogans was “Evrybody needs a Yugo Sometimes. In fact, driving the Yugo was kinda hard to enjoy. It is uncomfortable, unreliable and boxy. Its really amazing how it is still seen around european streets up to this day. Not so thanks to the abundant supply of spare parts. Whats more horrible is the fact that it has rear windows heated so your hands stays warm while pushing the car!

As we all know, Mercedes Benz engaged in the ever growing “mini” car business. It introduced its A-Class in 1997. And received much criticism of how the car was terribly built. It simply did not help make the case for the small car. Just recently, the A-Class is finally updated for 2009. Critics say it might be the sort of car that makes perfect sense for the fuel-conscious consumers. The A-Class is a bit boxy type just like any other hatchbacks in its class. But remains to be different manages because it still carries Benzes’ traditional styling cues. It measures just 152.9 in. long overall. The A-Class is more than a foot shorter than the Volkswagen Rabbit. It is available with six different four-cylinder engines. The A-Class is, marketability-wise, all grown up now. and we are all just waiting for it to come out.

Pininfarina, a sporty car brand from Italy, has heeded the green concept call. Pininfarina and Bollore (a French group) agreed on a 50-50 joint venture to produce electric cars set for release in 2010 under the Pininfarina brand. Investments are said to amount to around 150 million euros.

According to Pininfarina press release, the electric cars will have four seats and will be powered by a battery that provides a range of 250 km in city driving. The battery has a large capacity and can be recharged using electrical outlets.

Any undertaking that aims, in one way or another, to preserve the environment deserves full support. This new project of Pininfarina will surely be welcomed by the green community with a smile. And to think that the electric cars will produce 0% carbon dioxide emissions is a sign that it will not add up to the problems of global warming. Hopefully, these new inventions will be a car of choice not only for environment-friendly drivers but for all European car lovers as well.

Try asking any member of various Volkswagen Clubs reasons why they prefer the Beetle over any other model and any other brand at that.

Their comments will basically be the following:

1. Passed on from generation to generation, the car has sentimental value;
2. This car consumes less fuel and requires less maintenance than most cars do;
3. Very few people drive the vintage Beetle; thus
4. Price and value of the Beetle goes up every year;
5. They get an average of two compliments per day for the way their car looks and how well-maintained they keep them;
6. The fact being that the Beetle was prototype for Porsche sports cars makes it all the more valuable and priceless.

So the next time you see a group of Beetles driving in some highway, one after the other, those are the VW club guys, who believe in the spirit of the classic, vintage, priceless Beetle.

The Audi R8

My best friend drives a Beetle. A very old, very ancient Beetle. The moment I’m inside his car, I immediately want to get out. He thinks I do this just to tease him; I also do this for a far more deeper reason: to sort of let him know he ought to change his car. His dad and I have been bugging him to change his car preference, but always have been brushed off. “I love this car, I’m never trading it for any other car in the world” are his exact disappointing words.

Until we saw Iron Man. It was the only time since the Beetle issue that I saw his eyes light up over a car. If you saw this movie, and gave notice to the luxury cars Robert Downey, Jr. drove (and landed on), you were looking at the next best thing. Let me give you a short but sweet description on just what the Audi R8 can offer:

- The Audi R8 is outfitted with a 4.2 L FSI V8 developing 420 PS (414 hp/309 kW) (the same engine used in the B7 Audi RS4.)
- 15% of the R8’s design is shared with the Lamborghini Gallardo, as well as the transmission and framework. The R8 is created different by its external styling, cabin, engine, and pricing.
- The Audi R8 also features an optional Bang & Olufsen sound system and Carbon-Ceramic composite brakes with monobloc Brembo calipers on all four wheels.
- The R8 has been hailed as the car of the year 2008 in countless sports magazines.

I don’t have anything against Beetles. Really, I agree with my best friend that driving the Beetle has its innumerable advantages. If you drove a Beetle, you won’t have to worry about a lot of things. Let’s save that story for another day.

Luxury cars have always been regarded as material possessions of which only the high and mighty can afford… and well, they really are. Here is just another of the long line of models that the Lamborghini has for those sports car fanatics.

Let us welcome to the awesome world of cars the new Gallardo creation. The car has an all-new V10 powerplant pushing 552 horsepower, its trademark permanent four-wheel drive and modernized E-gear sequential manual transmission which pushes up to 40-percent faster gear changes. The LP560-4 also weighs 40 pounds less than its previous models and has revised suspension setup for improved handling and powerful new aerodynamics copied from the original Reventn. This is surely the car of all cars.

Here comes another horrible creation. So unlike the advertisements for this car, one look at the yada, yada, yada throws you off track. On TV, you’d think that the Lada was just the perfect car for a quick drive by the beach, or a good day in the city. Looking at it again, you’d think twice. With its box-type exterior, it’s shaped like Mr. Bean’s car (and tends to run just as slow). Said to drive like a tractor, the Lada also provides you the luxury of straining your arm muscles from time to time to control (at least then you’d save up from going to the gym.)

It’s one of the worst cars ever made because although manufactured in the 90’s, the drive and the feel of the car brings you 20 years back. Talk about a historical trip back in time. Literally.

DACIA 1300 (Romanian)

Who ever said that, “What is essential is invisible to the eye,” was the greatest mentor of the manufacturers of the Dacia 1300. If you look through the windows of the Romanian-made car and see the interior, you will unconsciously ask yourself the question, “Is this all?”

Two versions of the Dacias were manufactured at first, for its trial debut. The first, better version was exported and the other one was sold in Romania. The exported Dacia was built with better, stronger parts and were assembled with utmost care and precision. However, the Dacia sold locally was manufactured so badly, that the locals had to cross the border just to buy their Dacia.

The reasons why the Dacia didn’t make such a big impact positively in the European world of cars are based highly on these: lack of power steering, very poor ventilation (no aircondition), unbalanced structure of wheels and just the fact that the interior seemed to be lacking something very important. Voted also, as one of Europe’s worst-ever constructed cars.

Volkswagen is presently the world’s fourth largest automaker and it seems like things are getting brighter for the car company. Autonews.com reports that Volkswagen has experienced a 19 percent rise in its first quarter operating profit for its core VW brand. It translates to some 461 million euros, to be more accurate.

Another VW brand that showed a robust growth was Czech unit Skoda whose operating profit rose by 5.8 percent to 182 million euros. As expected, people at Volkswagen are happy with the results and they expect higher overall vehicle profit all throughout the year.
